Two People Die From Drowning As River Tana Bursts Its Banks

Kenya Red Cross Society Tana River branch has confirmed that two people have died and 4000 displaced in Tana River County following the ongoing rains. One of the dead is 11 years old and the other is 19 years who whose remains were retrieved from River Tana, Sala Ward. Speaking to the press in Hola yesterday, KRCS branch Coordinator Mr.Gerald Bombe said the major effects of the floods are being experienced in the Madogo division of Tana River County where the flood victims have camped at the Bakuyu area and need food aid. Bombe also said, that his Organisation is in the process of supplying non-food items such as mosquito nets, and blankets, and appealed to other Non-governmental organizations to intervene and support the flood victims. He also appealed to the residents of Tana River County who are staying in low lands to move to the higher grounds pointing out that there is expected a water surge due to heavy rainfall in the River Tana upstream region.
