The new WFP Country Representative and Director presents his Cabinet Letters to the head of Burkinabe diplomacy.


The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, received this Monday evening, the new representative and Country Director of the World Food Program, who came to present his Cabinet Letters to him.

Mr. Sory Ouane, who has been serving as WFP Country Representative and Director in Burkina Faso since August 26, 2024, has more than three decades of experience in the humanitarian and development aid field.

Having already served in Burkina Faso between 1994 and 1998, Mr. Ouane, who is of Malian nationality, says he feels at home and intends to assume his duties with determination.

He specified that the actions of the WFP under his mandate will be defined and carried out according to the priorities of the Burkinabe government, in terms of humanitarian aid, development and strengthening the resilience of populations.

For him, his institution remains open to dialogue and to any direction that the government would like to give it, in the sense of making WFP i
nterventions beneficial to the Burkinabe population.

For his part, the Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, while wishing a welcome and fruitful mission to the new Representative and Country Director of WFP in Burkina Faso, was delighted to welcome a person who knows the context and culture of the country well.

In view of Mr. Ouane’s experience, the head of Burkinabe diplomacy said he hoped for concrete results in the cooperation between Burkina Faso and the PAM, through actions that will be in line with presidential initiatives.

He reassured him that the department in charge of Foreign Affairs remains available and accessible, to support him in succeeding in his mission in the land of upright men.
