The Swakopmund Municipality has extended the contract of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Alfeus Archie Benjamin, for an additional five years, effective 01 December 2023.
The extension of the CEO’s employment contract was done in terms of the provision of section 27 of the Local Authority Act, Act 23 of 1992, as amended.
Benjamin, who joined the local authority in December 2018, played an instrumental role in driving positive change and progress within the Swakopmund Municipality during his tenure as CEO.
Swakopmund Mayor, Dina Namubes, said the municipality’s decision to renew the CEO’s contract is backed by the immense contribution and tangible results that he delivered over his first five-year term.
“I am positive that you will all agree with me that organisations fail as a result of lack of visionary leadership, corruptible practices, as well as poor people management skills. Benjamin has achieved far more than what was expected within his first five years. Hence, the success of this organisation can be celebrated as a result of his hard work, dedication and passion,” Namubes said.
In his acceptance speech, Benjamin vowed his commitment to leading the Swakopmund Municipality with vision, dedication and collaboration approach and highlighted his eagerness to leverage his experience, skills, and expertise to steer the municipality towards greater achievements, innovation and operational excellence.
“I am confident that together we can overcome challenges and seize opportunities to propel the organisation and Swakopmund City to new heights.
It is important to note at this juncture that we have achieved significant milestones that will serve as launch pads for future sustainable development, and we have established clarity about the future of Swakopmund municipality, and the town of Swakopmund, through finalising key strategic processes,’ Benjamin said.
During Benjamin’s tenure, the Swakopmund Municipality has allocated land to over 1 500 beneficiaries under the Build Together Housing Project, DRC ownership project, Mass Housing and 40/40 Projects, among others.
