Security Beefed In Kericho Ahead Of The Mashujaa Day Fete

The National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) in Kericho have been urged to ensure law and order are maintained and that residents conduct themselves with a sense of decorum as the county receives many guests ahead of the national Mashujaa Day celebrations to be held at the Kericho Green Stadium.

While addressing the Deputy County Commissioners, Assistant County Commissioners, Chiefs, and Assistant Chiefs from all six sub-counties in Kericho, the County Commissioner, Mr. Gilbert Kityo, urged the administration officers to crackdown on illicit brews and drug barons in their areas of jurisdiction.

The County Commissioner also implored them to sensitise the communities around them on the government’s commitment to ending new HIV infections by 2030 and adolescent pregnancies and sexual and gender-based violence by 2026, noting that it was important for residents to exercise restraint and good morals as people from all walks of life tour the county prior to, during, and after the Mashujaa celebrations.

‘We already have many officers from different government departments in the county ahead of Mashujaa celebrations. In fact, there are already 2,500 Kenya Defense Forces in Kericho, and so area residents should be in proper behaviour and modesty. We want a peaceful environment,’ said Kityo.

The county commissioner issued an update on the ongoing preparations for the Mashujaa Day celebrations, urging chiefs and their assistants to inform and welcome the residents to attend the national fete at Kericho Green Stadium on October 20th.

‘The government is re-carpeting 21 kilometres of roads within Kericho town in readiness for the national holiday, so residents will have easy access to the stadium on the material day,’ he added.

He also confirmed that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is expected to officially open the Health Expo, which will kick off on October 16-19 at Kapkatet grounds in Bureti Sub-County.
