Residents of Turkana East Sub County are set to benefit from improved water services following the upgrade of water access infrastructure at Lokicheda, Katamanak, and Lopii undertaken by the County Government in collaboration with various partners.

Kenya Red Cross Society, International Organisation for Migration, and Global Partner have supported water interventions in various projects in the sub-county.

The Chief Officer for Water Services, David Maraka said that the upgrade included borehole rehabilitation, maintenance of elevated tanks, test pumping, and improvement of cattle troughs.

‘I must, however, acknowledge that further interventions are required to make the services more accessible and sustainable. That is why we will undertake the fencing of solar panel stands, piping to the community, and protection of the elevated tanks,’ said the Chief Officer.

With the support of the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), the Lokicheda borehole that was initially equipped with a hand pump is now solarized. Two w
ater kiosks have also been constructed to benefit the area’s residents.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) supported the Katamanak project and delivered a borehole.

At Lopii, Global Partner supported the rehabilitation of the borehole by unclogging the system to a new depth of 60 meters and lowering the submersible pump to a point that allowed the best possible results.

The assessment was conducted by the Turkana East Sub County water officers.
