Police in Mlolongo, Machakos County, have impounded suspects dealing with illicit brew during a crackdown on second-generation alcohol, along the Nairobi -Mombasa Highway.
According to Athi River East Sub-county Police Commander, Anderson Mbae 65 unlabeled cartons each containing 20 bottles of 250ml suspected to be containing counterfeit liquor labeled as Straight Vodka, were seized after being abandoned by owners at the Mazda saloon car at Shell Petrol station in Athi River.
Mbae said police were acting on a tip-off when the illicit brew was impounded.
The Police Commander said the driver of the vehicle carrying consignment, declined police orders to stop along the Highway, leading to a chase.
‘The driver of the said vehicle declined to stop after police officers from Mlolongo flagged him down leading to a chase. He abandoned the vehicle at the petrol station and fled on foot,’ he said.
Mbae said the vehicle was towed to Mlolongo Police Station.
He said police are searching for the driver.
Elsewhere,
two people died and others sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred in the Syokimau area, along the Nairobi -Mombasa Highway.
While confirming the incident, Athi River South Sub-county Police Commander, Jos Mudavadi, said the accident happened after a lorry rammed into an Embassava Sacco bus from behind, killing the two on the spot and injuring others in the bus.
The two vehicles were both headed to Nairobi when the incident occurred at around 1.30 pm.
Those injured were taken to various hospitals within the area.
The vehicles were towed to Athi River Police Station, pending investigations.
