Narok Peace Association group has donated food worth Sh. 100, 000 to the vulnerable families with physically challenged persons. The group donated the food stuff that included maize floor, cooking fat and beans as a way of celebrating Easter. The group’s ambassador Joshua Ole Kaputa said the food was given by well-wishers who included the business community, civil society and non-governmental organizations. ‘You do not have to have so much to share with the poor. You give the little you have to the less fortunate people so that you can be a blessing to them,’ he said. The food was issued at the Narok North Youth Empowerment Hall where hundreds of persons living with disability gathered to celebrate Easter Monday. The Association’s Chairperson Ms. Grace Saningo called on the Government to provide income generating opportunities to persons living with disability for self-sustainability. ‘Some of the physically challenged can support themselves financially if they only get capital to start businesses like poultry farming, goat rearing and retail shops,’ she said. Narok Disabled Integrated group patron Paul Ole Sopia said the persons living with disability were more affected by the long dry spell, thanking the peace association for helping them. ‘This group has always supported us to place a plate of food on the table. We are very grateful and pray for you to have more to share with more people,’ he said. Ole Sopia asked the county government to consider employing more persons living with disability so as to empower the special group. Recently, the government released Sh. 522, 000 bursary to help 16 students with disability in the county so that they can continue with their studies smoothly. The government encourages parents and guardians of persons living with disability to register them with the National Council of Persons with Disability (NCPLWD) department so that they can benefit from any help given by the government.
