Addis Ababa: The Office of the National ID Program has disclosed that over 7 million Ethiopian citizens have enrolled for a digital ID.
The National ID project of the country aims to enroll over 90 people, making it one of the largest digital ID systems in the world.
Accordingly initiative is being executed through a collaborative effort with various institutions, guided by a motto ‘one person is one.’
Olana Abebe, Institutional Participation Counselor at the National ID Project stated that the registration process is being conducted in a well-coordinated and efficient manner.
Olana emphasized the significant national advantages of the digital ID service for efficient service in various sectors including the country’s tax administrations.
He explained that it facilitates the recording of demographic and biometric data, assigning a unique personal ID number to each resident.
Accordingly, 7 million citizens have already registered to receive digital ID.
To ensure uniqueness, accuracy and security of the
new ID system, Ethiopia is incorporating the latest technologies including biometrics, machine learning systems and advanced cryptography, it was learned.
