Mombasa County Governor, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, has launched a groundbreaking scholarship program, to provide educational opportunities for deserving needy students in the region.

The program has 358 beneficiaries comprising the top two girls and top two boys drawn from every public primary school in Mombasa.

Of the beneficiaries, 291 students, will be from boarding schools and 67 from day schools.

Speaking at the Tononoka Social Hall, Mombasa, The Governor said that this inclusive approach, aims to provide equal opportunities for bright students across the region, irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds.

In attendance was the ODM Party Leader, Raila Odinga, The Deputy Party Leader, Ali Hassan Joho, The Party Chairman, Mohammed Dee Khamis, Mvita Member of Parliament (MP), Mohammed Machele, Jomvu MP, Bady Twalib.

‘By recognizing and su
pporting academic excellence at the primary level, the program seeks to nurture future leaders and scholars, who will contribute positively to the development of Mombasa County and beyond,’ Nassir said.

The County Administration has allocated funds amounting to Sh15 million to cover full school fees for the selected students under the scholarship program.

By covering the entire cost of education for these beneficiaries, the Administration aims to alleviate the financial burden on their families and provide them with the necessary resources to excel in their studies.

Nassir also highlighted the success of the school feeding program, that he started last year, noting that children in early childhood education were previously unable to attend school due to lack of nutrition.

‘I have ensured that children in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) are receiving proper nutrition at school through the feeding program and as we speak we have eight additional ECDE centers under construction in the County Gov
ernment’s Jurisdiction.

The Governor also highlighted that in the previous year, the County government distributed approximately 25,000 revision books to KCPE students and 10,000 books to KCSE students, free of charge, easing the financial burden on parents.

This initiative is aimed at supporting students in their exam preparation and ensure equal access to educational resources across the County.
