Mathioya Member of Parliament Edwin Mugo has asked parents to join hands with teachers to improve the quality of education in the area.
Mugo, who was speaking during the opening of upgraded classrooms at Kanoro Primary School, said that in addition to improving infrastructure, parents and educators have to work together to utilise the new infrastructure to improve the quality of education.
‘I am asking parents and teachers to work together and improve the academic performance of our schools even as we work on improving infrastructure,’ Mugo said.
The MP, who said that he was improving infrastructure in the schools for posterity, observed that quality infrastructure is important when it comes to quality education as it offers a level playing field for children whose parents cannot afford to take them to private schools.
‘By upgrading these schools, we want the children of Mathioya now and even in the future to be able to compete with their peers in private schools,’ Mugo said.
Mugo also urged parents from
Mathioya residing in other parts of the country to consider educating their children in Mathioya, as the schools will now have modern infrastructure.
The MP also commissioned other upgraded classrooms in Ruiru Primary and Nyangiti Primary schools.
The upgrade involved the tiling of classroom floors, the replacement or painting of roofs, new windows and doors, as well as a fresh coat of paint.
In addition to infrastructure, Mugo also issued bursaries to the parents of 500 model students who will receive full scholarships throughout secondary school.
‘The model students are the best-performing students at the sub-location level where we take a boy and a girl and sponsor them from Form-one to Form-four,’ Mugo said, underscoring the importance of education in uplifting society.
He further urged the parents of those students to strictly monitor the performance of those students since the NG-CDF office may not be able to keep tabs on all of them.
