Man allegedly kills girlfriend before committing suicide

A 38-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself after hitting his 31-year-old girlfriend on the forehead with a metal object and hanging her, leading to her death at Okapya kaMbidhi a village in the Omusati Region on Friday.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Omusati Region, Deputy Commissioner Moses Simaho confirmed the incident on Monday, saying it occurred at Okapya kaMbidhi village in the Ogongo Constituency.

The deceased woman was employed as a domestic worker by her boyfriend’s parents.

Simaho said that a neighbour informed the police that the couple were fighting just before midnight on Friday, but the two lifeless bodies were only discovered on Sunday.

“The reason for their altercation is unknown,” he said.

He added that the victim was allegedly struck on the forehead with an iron object by the suspect, who then fracture the victim’s skull, before hanging her with steel wire from the roof of a shack.

Simaho indicated that the deceased’s next of kin have not yet been informed of their deaths and that efforts to locate them are underway.

A suicide note, written by the suspect, was discovered.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
