Late Usakos councillor described as selfless leader

Mourners have described the late Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) Usakos Town Councillor Aletta Katiti Sem as a selfless leader who served both her party and community with diligence.

Sem, 45, died on 17 July, at the Usakos State Hospital where she was rushed to after fainting while giving a speech at the church where she was attending a service that day.

Sem joined the Usakos Town Council in 2020 where she served as a member of the management committee until she was elected as Deputy Mayor in 2022.

Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development Natalia |Goagoses during her visit to the deceased’s family house in Usakos on Wednesday, lauded the late councillor’s willingness to assist everyone, regardless of their political, economic or social background.

“At first I did not even know what political party the late Sem belonged to, because in her, I saw a servant leader who helped everyone who came to knock at her door and this is how l will always remember her,” she conveyed.

The minister further urged community members not to glorify their leaders but instead pray for their health and wellbeing in order to continue serving them.

“Community members need not to thank their leaders. You put us in these positions to serve you and therefore it is our responsibility to give you these services, therefore pray for your leaders,” she expressed.

|Goagoses called on the council members to continue where the late Sem left off in serving the town’s residents, to ensure that all her relentless efforts do not go to waste and for her legacy to live on.

PDM Erongo regional coordinator Roger Nautoro described the late Sem as a dedicated leader within the party and towards the residents of Usakos.

“Sem’s loss is indeed tremendous to the PDM as we have lost our foot soldier, a go-getter, a people’s person and a servant leader,” Nautoro expressed.

Usakos Mayor Irene Simeon-Kurtz described the councillor’s untimely death as a big loss to the entire Usakos community.

“Councillor Sem was somebody I could rely on, she was my strength, when I am not in the office, she always took the lead. We are all bleeding as we did not expect this,” she said.
