The Teso North Subcounty Music Festival for Primary and JSS wrapped up on Thursday with captivating performances by learners from various institutions attracting music lovers across the county.
Kenya Music Festivals in partnership with Equity Bank sponsored the Amagoro zonal competition hosted at Amagoro Primary School with the objective of nurturing and appreciating diverse talents among learners in-line with CBC.
The Sub County schools Music chairperson Sospeter Etyang, admitted that the level of competition has improved with schools having registered more items for presentation compared to previous years.
Etyang is confident that the presentations will progress all the way to the nationals and international competition.
‘We have so many schools and academies present with various numerous presentations but we hope to end early and produce the best,’ Etyang said.
Equity Bank who were the sponsors affirmed their commitment towards supporting such activities as part of their CSR to ensure talents are tap
ped at the grassroots level.
‘Our main objective is giving back to the society through talent nurturing and education. As a financial institution we remain committed to supporting the education sector as it holds hope for the future,’ said the Bank manager Malaba branch.
School heads urged the ministry of education to release school capitation to enable school activities run smoothly.
Zenith Academy dominated most of the spoken performances awards and poems while folk- songs were domineered by the public primary schools.
Anita Akinyi, a music teacher at Zenith Academy attributes their success to regular practice and school having a good foundation in languages.
‘Less schools perform Indian dances so I saw this as a breakthrough and gave all my best to the kids. As an institution we are trying to mold all round learners,’ Akinyi said.
The event had various items such as Instrumental, Solo’s, sing games, Indian dance and so on but the adjudication table commented and emphasized teachers and trainers to ob
serve the age limits across all performances.
The event came to an end with an awards ceremony by the KEPSHA chair Teso North and Equity Bank, awarding the top performers and proceeding teams to Subcounty level which festival will be held at Kolanya on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
