The county government of Vihiga has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kenya Film Commission (KFC) that will see the latter set up a film theatre in the county.
Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo said the theatre would go a long way in nurturing and promoting talents among the youth as well as help them monetize their productions.
Dr. Ottichilo, who spoke on Sunday during the finals of the three-day county youth extravaganza staged at Kaimosi Friends University, said his administration is ready to support talents as a source of livelihood for the residents.
‘We have also agreed with the KFC that they produce a documentary on highlighting the rich socio-cultural heritage and tourist attractions to market the county to potential clients,’ he stated.
The Commission’s Chief Executive Officer Timothy Odhiambo pledged to collaborate with the county so as to make it a powerhouse in theatre production and performance.
He acknowledged the fact that theatre is now an emerging economic frontier that had not been exploited for a long time.
