Kavango East Police investigate Mabushe murder

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kavango East Region are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder at Mabushe village after an unknown suspect allegedly shot and killed an 84-year-old man on Monday.

The suspect also allegedly shot and injured the man’s 92-year-old wife.

NamPol Crime Investigations Coordinator in the region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, told Nampa on Wednesday the deceased has been identified as Mbambi Shikanda.

Kanyetu said while the couple was having dinner around 19h30, the suspect allegedly entered their homestead and started shooting at Shikanda. He allegedly shot Shikanda in the hip and he died on the spot.

He then allegedly turned the gun on the deceased’s wife, injuring her on the left thigh.

She sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Nyangana District Hospital.

The suspect, whose identity is known to the police, has not yet been arrested.

Shikanda’s body was transported to the Rundu State Hospital’s mortuary.
