Kajiado Residents Receive Free Medical Services

Over 2000 residents of Kajiado County received free medical services during a three-day medical camp held at Eiti village in Kajiado Central.

The medical camp sponsored by Spread Truth Africa, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), in conjunction with Hope Citadel witnessed a huge turn-out of residents seeking treatment for various ailments.

Over 50 doctors and specialists attended to the patients and offered minor surgeries for various ailments such as tumors, dental and eye infections.

According to the Executive Director Spread Truth Africa Hamisi Kirenga, common ailments treated at the camp included eye infections, diabetes, cancer, tuberculosis, hyper-tension, acute malnutrition, Trachoma, cataract, flu, trachoma among others.

Family planning services, nutrition, HIV testing and counselling were also offered free of charge.

Kirenga revealed that cancer was common especially among the elderly and patients who tested positive after the screening were referred to various hospitals for specialized compre
hensive treatment.

‘We have patients who have tumors and they have been operated on and the tumors removed. Patients with cancer have also been diagnosed and referred to hospitals for comprehensive medical care,’ Kirenga said.

According to Dr. Lucy Mutungi from Hope Citadel, eye infections were common due to the dry and dusty conditions experienced in the area.

Dr. Mutungi revealed that many patients were suffering from cataract and trachoma and they had successfully done over 100 eye surgeries in a bid to save sight.

She added that 350 dental extractions and fillings had also been performed during the 3-day camp and called on residents to observe their oral hygiene.

Acute malnutrition among children under the age of five, the elderly, pregnant and lactating mothers was also recorded during the medical camp.

Agnes Timpape, a resident of Inkinye, expressed her gratitude to the organizers of the free medical camp adding that she had received medication for hypertension for free and her son who had a cavit
y had also received a free dental check -up.

Joseph Matampash, who received free treatment and medication for diabetes said the free medical camp was timely as many locals had been left destitute by the drought witnessed last year and could not afford medical services.
