In Abu Dhabi, panelists encourage the strong presence of women in the media

Abu Dhabi (UAE), Panelists encouraged the strong presence of women in the media, during a discussion on diversity and inclusion of women in the media sphere.

“Over the past 15 years, the number of women producers has increased by 90%,” said Ms. Nashwa Al Ruwaini, CEO of a media outlet. She was speaking at the public conferences of the first World Media Congress in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Of Nigerian nationality, Dr. Yemsi Akinbola, journalist, pointed out that this presence is more visible in radio stations, in other words at the level of podcasts (radio broadcast).

Ms. Akinbola, however, noted discrimination that favors men when recruiting for the media sector. She praised legislation in the UAE which empowers women.

Editor-in-chief, Khadeeja Almarzooqi praised the presence of women on screen. She suggests that those responsible for the media use language that puts men and women on an equal footing.

Conferences, workshops, debates and interviews furnished this first World Media Congress which ended on Thursday, November 17, 2022. Meetings which brought together 179 establishments and companies, for three days.
