The Kiambu County Department of Health Services, with I-TECH’s support, has successfully completed a four-day training programme for healthcare workers across various county facilities.
The programme centres on monitoring and prevention of infections after caesarean deliveries, a crucial component of maternal health care. Meanwhile, health care workers will gain advanced skills and knowledge to identify early signs of surgical site infections, learn how to implement effective preventative measures, and enhance post-operative care.
‘The importance of this training cannot be overstated, as it directly impacts maternal and neonatal outcomes, ensuring safer deliveries and healthier recoveries for mothers and their newborns,’ Kiambu Health CECM, Dr. Elias Maina, said.
Meanwhile, the government is fast-tracking efforts to make the Githunguri Level 5 Hospital, located in Githunguri Sub-county, operational in preparation for its transfer to the Kiambu County Government.
The Ministry of Defence is managing the co
nstruction of a hospital that will greatly enhance access to medical services for the local and neighbouring communities.
Last week, the Principal Secretary (PS) for the State Department for Medical Services, Harry Kimtai, along with the Principal Secretary (PS) for Defense, Dr. Patrick Mariru, and Githunguri Member of Parliament, Gathoni Muchomba, conducted a site visit to evaluate the progress of the facility.
The hospital, once completed, will greatly alleviate the strain on Kiambu Level 5 Hospital and offer specialised healthcare services to residents of Kiambu and surrounding counties.
Kimtai expressed confidence in the project’s progress, highlighting the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare access in the region.
Muchomba expressed her gratitude to both the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) for their steadfast support and dedication to the hospital’s construction.
She emphasised the hospital’s potential to significantly benefit the local community, both through i
mproved healthcare and economic growth.
‘I am committed to supporting this project and working closely with the MoD and MoH to ensure its successful completion,’ Wamuchomba said.
