Govt officers asked to publicise new Maisha Card

Chuka Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner, Ms. Angela Wanyama, has called on the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) and other departmental heads to publicise the importance of the new Maisha card.

Speaking during a sensitisation forum held in Chuka town, the DCC said every departmental head and NGAO present were better informed about the fourth generation identity card dubbed the Maisha card and hence better placed to inform the public about its importance.

‘Now that we understand the significance of the new identity card, let’s engage the public and other stakeholders about the uniqueness of the Maisha card and encourage them to apply as soon as possible,’ said Ms. Wanyama.

She further urged the government officers present to take time and explain more about the Maisha card to Wananchi, more so why the government is phasing out the second-generation identity card to this new one that is expected to last for ten years before it’s renewal.

The sub-county administrator appreciated that t
he Maisha card will serve as a unique personal identification document and that with it the citizens will no longer need to carry any other documents to access not only government services but many other services in the private sector.

The DCC was quick to elaborate that the Maisha card has an electronic chip with encrypted data to enhance security, hence the charges for acquiring the new modern identification document.

Officers from the office of the Registration of Births and Deaths in Tharaka Nithi County explained the enhanced features and benefits of the Maisha card just as they had done to County Departmental Heads at the County Commissioner’s boardroom at Kathwana on Friday last week.

They cautioned those present of the need to take good care of this third-generation identity card in order to ensure the microchip meets its ten-year warranty, or else they will be subjected to replacement costs.

They further pointed out that the Maisha card will reduce the burden of carrying other crucial documents,
and in case of fire, the documents will be safe and available with the Maisha card.
