Governor Chelilim Meets Roads, Transport And Public Works Team To Strategize For 2024

Uasin Gishu Governor, Dr Jonathan Chelilim, and his Deputy Eng. John Barorot, Monday, held a meeting with the staff under the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works.

The meeting sought to lay down strategies for the implementation of infrastructural projects, for the realization of his 6th Nguzo Kumi Agenda, as the Department ensures mobility and logistics across all sectors.

Last year the Department of Roads in Uasin Gishu was ranked second best performing in the country in the implementation of road projects under the devolved units.

The Auditor General Report ranked Uasin Gishu County number three, in proper utilization of public resources, during the 2022/23 Financial Year.

‘As we work to deliver quality projects to the residents of Uasin Gishu, I would like to see all staff motivated. Every one of you should know that they matter,’ he said.

The County boss together with his Deputy thanked the team for their dedication, adding that other counties are keenly watching the performance of Uasin
Gishu, following previous reports of success and quality delivery of projects in the County.

They urged staff to continue working hard and as a team across all departments, to maintain good ratings in 2024.

The Department of Roads also achieved a grading of over 800km of roads. This year, the Department led by County Executive Eng. Joseph Lagat, is looking forward to attaining the over 1,000km target.

As President Dr William Ruto continues to actualize the government’s ambitious program of building affordable houses for Kenyans, Uasin Gishu County leadership is encouraging interested staff and residents to register for the affordable housing contribution Boma Yangu portal.

While addressing the same forum under the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works at the county Yard, Governor Chelilim explained the importance of starting early contributions, to secure an affordable house within the urban set-up.

‘I encourage all of you to start making your contributions for affordable housing slowly. It’s h
igh time we realized the importance of not constructing houses on the little land we have in our rural areas and utilizing it only for agricultural purposes for economic empowerment, ‘added Dr. Chelilim.

The Governor and his deputy hailed the initiative, as they asked the county staff not to fear owning a house, saying the program offers housing services to low and middle-income households and will eventually see many Kenyans become homeowners.

Others present during the meeting were the County Secretary Edwin Bett, CECMs Eng. Joseph Lagat (Roads), Micah Rogony(Finance), Chief of Staff Nicholas Chepkwony, Chief Officers Eliud Chemaget (Finance), Elijah Koech(Water), Eng Abraham Kiptalam(Roads) and Ambrose Tarus (Public Service Management), Directors among other top county officials.
