Government to establish Huduma Centres across all 290 constituencies


Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Justin Muturi has said the Ministry plans to establish Huduma Centres across all the 290 constituencies in the country to ensure efficient services delivery to citizens.

Speaking during the culmination of Customer Service Week in Kisumu on Friday, Muturi commended Huduma Kenya staff for their dedication to service delivery to Kenyans.

He stressed that the range of services offered at the centres have seen a surge in the number of application of various government services such as identification cards, driving licenses and other much sought-out services.

‘I appreciate the critical role Huduma Centres have played in the lives of citizens in ensuring a satisfied citizenry,’ he said.

‘It is these simple things done at the desks that can change the whole perspective of a customer, who will in turn appreciate what the government is doing,’ the CS said.

To ensure a variety of services are offered at Huduma Centres across the country, Muturi emphasized the importance of part
nering with government ministries, departments and agencies including county governments.

At the same time, he also urged staff to seek out counselling services whenever they felt demotivated, to ensure that their health and service to customers are not compromised.

He also called on Kenyans to pick up IDs and other documents lying at the centres, a partnership that would be achieved by working closely with Huduma staff and other decision making bodies such as churches.

Principal Secretary in the State Department of Public Service Amos Gathecha noted that the collaboration between the Kenya School of Government KSG and Huduma Centre has gone a long way in offering training courses on customer care.

‘We have started rolling out the programmes targeting departments with a lot of contact with members of the public,’ he stated.

Kisumu Huduma Centre Manager Ms. Fiona Akinyi noted that the Centre which was officially opened in 2015, now serves between 1250 and 1500 customers on a daily basis, with a total of 9
9 dedicated staff offering services at the 26 active service stations.

‘We are currently performing at 78.7%, and we are aiming for a higher target of at least 90%,’ she said.

However, Ms. Fiona decried logistical challenges in terms of lack of vehicles which derailed Huduma Mashinani services.

‘By ensuring that at least each regional office has a vehicle, we believe our services will be more efficient going forward,’ she concluded.

CEO of Huduma Kenya Mr. Benjamin Chilumo and County Commissioner Benson Leparmorijo were also present in the event.
