The Presidency has announced that President Hage Geingob had undergone a successful minor aortic operation in the Republic of South Africa on Friday.
The presidency, in a statement availed to the media, said that during a routine medical check-up, Geingob’s medical team detected a mild aortic stenosis, which has remained asymptomatic thus far.
It stated that on the advice of medical staff, Geingob successfully underwent a preventive minor aortic procedure in the Republic of South Africa, adding that Geingob would have elected to undergo the procedure in Namibia. However, at this stage, Namibia does not have the expertise to carry out the procedure.
“President Hage Geingob always emphasises a healthy lifestyle and early detection as important for the health of Namibians and the nation. Moreover, President Geingob will continue to champion transparency and accountability in governance, including disclosure on matters pertaining to his health,” it said.
It added that the presidency wishes to assure the Namibian people that Geingob remains fit and healthy and will resume presidential duties on 13 June 2023.
