President Hage Geingob on Wednesday wished the Swapo Party well as it turned 63 years old.
Geingob in a social media post said the ruling party has been hard at work to unite and ensure the economic development of the country.
“Today 63 years ago, Swapo, a glorious movement was formed with the mission of liberating Namibians from apartheid oppression. Swapo succeeded in that historic mission,” he tweeted.
He said Swapo will continue to work to complete the mission of socio-economic wellbeing for all and wished the rank and file of the party a happy 63rd anniversary.
On behalf of the Swapo Party Youth League, its secretary Ephraim Nekongo said they remain indebted to the only party that has a history of liberating Namibia from the “jaws” of colonialism as they continue to draw inspiration from the pioneers of yesteryears.
“We pay homage to the only party whose colours are embedded in the veins of our people, the only party through which the hopes and aspirations of our people continue to be realised,” he said.
Swapo Party, he added is an epitome of a non-racial, non-tribal, non-partisan organisation, a national bearer of peace, stability and national reconciliation.
Swapo was founded on 19 April 1960 as the successor of the Ovamboland People’s Organisation.
