Former People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) combatants based in the Otjozondjupa Region gathered at Otjiwarongo on Wednesday to formulate campaigning strategies for candidates in the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The rector of the Swapo Party School, Charles Mubita facilitated the one-day workshop at the Swapo Party headquarters in Otjiwarongo.
Mubita in an interview with Nampa shortly after the official opening of the workshop said the group consisted of 12 former PLAN combatants from the seven districts of Tsumkwe, Grootfontein, Otavi, Otjiwarongo, Omatako, Okahandja and Okakarara.
They are also members of the regional executive committee of the former PLAN combatants association in the region.
Mubita, who is also the deputy secretary for information and mobilisation of Swapo at national level, said the workshop intends to solicit practical strategies and campaigning ideas that can be applied when the former PLAN combatants start to campaign for their candidates for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections next year.
“We are former PLAN combatants who promised to defeat the enemy during the liberation struggle, and now we want our party to return its majority votes to the Presidential and National Assembly Elections next year,” he said.
On his part, the acting Swapo former PLAN combatant association coordinator in Otjozondjupa, Gerhard Mavenjono said the aim during the liberation struggle was for the political independence of the country, and now it is for economic emancipation for all Namibians.
The Swapo Party Regional Coordinator in the region, Immanuel Namaseb was also in attendance.
