Fins To Swim Scholarships Benefit Needy Students

Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga has termed the ‘Fins to Swim’ scholarship programme as a key Educational support initiative her government has put in place to help needy and vulnerable students continue staying in school.

Speaking during the Governor’s Mentorship Camp held at Wang’apala Secondary School, Governor Wanga said, following the arising number of parents facing school fees and payment difficulties, the ‘Fins to Swim’ Scholarship initiated by her government has supported bright and needy students throughout their secondary education.

‘This year’s ‘Fins to Swim’ has benefited a total of 299 students, boys and girls. Now they can all study with the confidence that they will be catered for throughout their secondary education,’ the Governor said.

She explained that her educational support initiative was put in place to bring hope to the students and the community at large.

‘This scholarship is a beckon of hope to all students, parents, guardians, and the communities they come from,’ the govern
or said.

She further noted that the county government has offered other bursary programmes to the wards through the members of the county assembly to assist students in reducing the financial burden they might be facing in paying school fees.

Responding to student queries on the bursary, the governor said each ward in the county has been allocated Sh 4 million for the bursary kitty.

‘Additionally, we offer bursary programmes that ensure no deserving student is left behind due to financial constraints,’ she said.

The Governor said these programmes were a way of helping young minds willing to learn to unlock endless possibilities.

The governor told the students to recognise that they are part of a community because when they are in school, everyone is contributing to their wellbeing and success, including the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), the county bursary, and relatives.
