The eight students from the International Bilingual Schools of Africa (IBSA), ranked second in the pan-African robotics competition “Pan African Robotics competition” (PARC) which took place from June 30 to 3 July 2022 in Dakar, celebrated on Friday September 16, 2022 in Abidjan.
This second place directly qualifies the team for the final phase of the Robotics World Cup in 2023.
IBSA’s Director General, Valérie Zoudiet Coulibaly, congratulated her students, whose ages range from 11 to 16, who brilliantly represented Côte d’Ivoire.
“We are very proud of what our students have accomplished. They were the youngest and they honored the Ivory Coast and the school. I am extremely proud and we are ready to support them”, promised Ms. Coulibaly, calling for the inclusion, in education and training, of programs capable of solving learners’ problems.
“It’s important to put robotics and all things science forward in training so that our students have the same level as those around the world,” she suggested.
The competitors’ supervisor, Auriel Blé, professor of robotics, explained that two teams, namely the ”techleague” (11 to 14 years old) and ”the makers league” (14 to 16 years old), represented school in this pan-African competition.
The challenge was to assemble and program robots from kits made available to the teams. Then, these robots must be remotely controlled by the candidates to move objects from point A to point B.
PARC is an annual robotics competition that brings together teams from colleges, high schools and universities as well as young African and diaspora professionals.
The objective of this competition is to inspire young people while promoting education in order to prepare them to meet societal challenges.
