Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / The Ministry of Tourism welcomes its contribution to GDP of 7.33% in 2020

Jacqueville, Sept 17, 2021 (AIP) – The Ministry of Tourism and Leisure, through its executive secretary, Dr Aphing Kouassi, welcomed its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), amounting to 7.33% in 2020 against 0.66% in 2006, during the ceremony organized in favor of the fortnight of tourism within the prefecture of the department, Wednesday, August 15, 2021.

According to Dr Aphing Kouassi, this result, which stems from the will of the government authorities to involve all resources as well as all sectors of activity in the country’s development process, is a considerable achievement. He added that Côte d’Ivoire, due to its geographical location, has diverse and varied tourist potential that should be transformed to make it its own wealth.

Defining the priorities of the government, Dr Aphing Kouassi affirmed that a strategy called “Sweet Côte d’Ivoire”, aiming at the same time to increase the GDP, to set up an employability pool including approximately 750,000 jobs by 2025 and to participate in the so far virtual regional disparity, is being realized.

He invited the local authorities, as well as the populations to appropriate this find which will be celebrated each year so that all the riches of the locality are valued.

The representative of the mayor of Jacqueville, Aka Bassi, said the city council’s readiness to accompany this outstretched hand of the government which consists in putting the development of tourism at the center of its priorities.

Considering this activity to be the pillar of the local economy, Aka Bassi confided that his work team is hard at work to provide Jacqueville with the necessary infrastructure for the development of this sector.

This meeting, which took place as a prelude to the International Tourism Day scheduled for September 25-27 in Abidjan, served as a framework to thank a few people thanks to whom this sector of activity has taken off in Jacqueville.
