Côte d’Ivoire-AIP/ The Center for Prospective Studies welcomes the election of Alain Donwahi as President of COP 15
The Center for Prospective Studies (CEP) congratulates Alain Richard Donwahi, founding member of the CEP, elected Wednesday May 11, 2022, President of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Fight against desertification (COP 15) which is held from 09 to 20 May 2022 in Abidjan
While expressing his gratitude to the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, for his support and his confidence, Alain Richard Donwahi unveiled part of his program of actions.
These include the more than necessary consideration of the issue of gender and young people in the work, the commitment of all to a common response to global issues by forming a common front and the resolution of crises through diplomacy in order to save the common heritage.
“COP 15 is a key moment to act with one voice in the face of the many challenges ahead,” he said. He promised to do everything possible to ensure with humility and dedication, the presidency of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification during the two-year term.
At the head of the Ministry of Water and Forests from 2017 to April 2022, the president of COP 15 there launched the successful operation one million trees planted in one day which had a strong impact on the regeneration of certain forests in Côte of ivory.
In the space of five years, the minister’s strategy has paid off because he has been able to reverse the destructive trend that left no square centimeter of forest for future generations.
Also, in its overall strategy to curb deforestation and reverse the trend by moving from three million hectares of forest cover currently to five million hectares by 2030, Côte d’Ivoire has developed a strategic plan of 610 billion of CFA Francs to finance forest protection and development programs, with the support and assistance of development partners.
The CEP is a think tank dedicated to the promotion of development policies. The Centre’s areas of intervention are diverse and cover all economic and social policies, in particular structural transformation and industrialization, international relations, peace and social cohesion, access to social services, good governance and the promotion of decent jobs.
