Côte d’Ivoire-AIP Taï Ecological Corridor the compensation process includes capacity building for those affected
The compensation process for the Taï Ecological Corridor project provides, apart from the cash component, capacity building for the people affected according to the quarterly work plan adopted during a meeting of the Corridor Technical Committee (CTC) held, Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the prefecture of Taï.
From the quarterly report (January to March) of the activities of the Project Execution Unit (PIU) presented by the person in charge of riparian measures, Pulchérie Doffou, the participants particularly appreciated the effectiveness of bank payment of the amounts due as compensation for people who gave up their land or plantations for the benefit of the Ecological Corridor.
Aside from cash compensation, the quarterly work plan (April to June) provides for training to build the capacities of those affected according to the areas of professional retraining chosen. Most of the fields chosen are animal husbandry, food production and trade. The research and development of lowlands for rice growing, training in agroforestry for other crops, as well as in the management of SMEs for trade, these are the contents of future training from which the people affected will benefit.
A compensation committee has also been set up to monitor the compliance of the implementation of compensation measures with the quarterly work plans validated regularly with the stakeholders for the sake of participatory governance. And this during another meeting held on Friday.
These support measures for cash compensation aim to promote good agricultural practices, preserve food security in the area impacted by the project and above all maintain or improve incomes and, by extension, the quality of life of local populations.
