Côte d’Ivoire -AIP Staggered celebration of the International Day of Older Persons in Bondoukou

The Secretary General 1 of the prefecture of Bondoukou, Coulibaly Mamadou proceeded, on Saturday April 15, 2023, to the official opening of the staggered celebration of the International Day of Older Persons (JIPA), at the headquarters of the regional directorate of social protection of Gontougo in Bondoukou.

The action taken today, in favor of seniors, is part of the vision of the President of the Republic, Alassane Ouattara, to guarantee intergenerational solidarity by taking full advantage of the contribution of all layers of the population, including people of the third age, to progress more quickly on the path of a more inclusive development of the country, declared Mr. Coulibaly.

He invited the seniors, in this perspective, to believe in themselves, in their potential and to fight for their better living conditions and above all to continue to take an active part in the development of the country and of Gontougo, in particular in pooling experiences with young people to promote solidarity development”.

For the president of the organizing committee, Ms. Djondo Stéphanie, the theme of this 32nd edition, namely, Let’s promote the skills of seniors in building a more prosperous, united and inclusive Côte d’Ivoire, is linked with the government social program. “The elderly, whatever their status, are always productive or useful to the economic, social, cultural and political development of our country,” she said in her address.

This celebration intends to highlight intergenerational solidarity by capitalizing on the skills and experiences of seniors in favor of the youngest for national development, according to the regional director of social protection of Gontougo, Kpla Kadio Georges. Young people and seniors must go hand in hand to move forward together on the path of development, he added.

Senior citizens of Bondoukou

This day was decreed by the General Assembly of the United Nations, through resolution 45106 of December 14, 1990 and organized throughout the territory by the regional directorates of social protection and particularly by that of Bondoukou, in accordance to the official declaration of the governor of October 1, 2022, according to the secretary general of the prefecture of Bondoukou.

A pre-fitness session was organised, Friday, April 14, 20223, at the town’s cultural center, as a prelude to this meeting, which saw senior citizens benefit in addition from screening sessions for diabetes and hypertension and food kits.
