Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / Orientation and online assignment in second launched at the next school year
The Guidance and Scholarships Department (DOB) is launching, from the start of the 2022-2023 school year, online guidance and assignment for third-grade students in second grade in five regional directorates, said DOB coordinator Mensah Thomas on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 in San Pedro.
Mr. Mensah delivered the information during a mission to raise awareness among actors in the education system on this operation, which comes after the successful experience of online affection for students in the sixth grade class of CM2, popularized since 2019.
The pilot phase of the operation will take place in the regional directorates of national education and literacy (DRENA) of Abidjan 1, Aboisso, Soubré, Yamoussoukro and Korhogo. All students who will be oriented and assigned to second class in establishments in these regions, from the start of the 2022-2023 school year, will be online. The operation will extend later in all the regional directions of the country.
Parents whose children are registered in other regions, also wishing to assign them to second class in the establishments of these pilot regional directorates, are obliged to do so online.
The process is the same as the sixth grade online assignment. It consists of sending by SMS (Succinct Message System) DOB to the number 9991, from a mobile phone number in service in Côte d’Ivoire, and following the instructions. At one stage of the process, the parent will have to choose assignment in sixth or orientation in second, before continuing the procedure.
The operation allows the parent of a pupil to guide his child who meets the criteria himself, in second class C (scientific series) or A (literary series) and to assign him to an establishment with the possibility of choosing a school of excellence wherever you live.
To be a candidate for orientation in second class, the student must be regularly registered in third class and identified in the file of the Examinations and Competitions Department (DECO), have the required averages and be 20 years old at the more as of December 31 of the current year.
The choice of a school of excellence in particular, the scientific high school of Yamoussoukro, the Alassane Ouattara high school of excellence in Grand Bassam and the Sainte-Marie high school in Cocody, meets other more specific criteria. These include for the student to be less than or equal to 16 years old on December 31 of the current year, excellent averages and never having taken a class from sixth to third.
The online orientation and assignment of students is part of the dematerialization program for public administration documents. Tested in DRENA 1 in Abidjan in 2018, the first operation concerning online assignment in sixth grade was generalized in 2019. It successively experienced a success rate of 85%, 90% and 92% from 2019 to 2021.
Account of this success, the World Bank, through the Project for the improvement of governance, the delivery of basic services to citizens (PAGDS), authorized the extension of the operation to the orientation and assignment in class of a second.
