Côte d’Ivoire-AIP/OIPR rewards four villages for their involvement in the conservation of Taï National Park

San Pedro, April 29, 2023 (AIP)-The Ivorian Parks and Reserves Office (OIPR) rewarded, on Friday April 28, 2023 in San Pedro, the villages of Gnaboya (Buyo department), Doba (San Pedro department) , Wonsealy and Zaïpobly, winners of the 2021 and 2022 editions, of the green eco-citizen prize, established to encourage local initiatives in favor of the conservation of the Taï National Park (PNT). The four villages received incentive diplomas and symbolic checks, for a total amount of 20 million CFA francs, at the first quarterly meeting of the Local Management Committee (CGL) of the Taï National Park held in the presence of members of the prefectural body of the regions where this protected area is based. The village of Gnaboya won the first prize of these last two editions of the green prize, for a reward of 10 million CFA francs. He is followed by Doba, twice second, who received a total of six million CFA francs. Wonsealy and Zaïpobly, respectively third in 2021 and 2022, close the march with an envelope of two million CFA francs each. The winning villages have raised awareness among local communities on the need for conservation, the relationship they must maintain with this protected area, the importance of agroforestry on the outskirts and have contributed to the fight against its aggression through the resource exploitation and hunting. The representative of the Director General of OIPR, Lieutenant-Colonel Issa Diarrassouba, congratulated the winners and encouraged them to keep their good attitudes. He said he hoped that this prize would help mobilize local populations to safeguard this world heritage and biosphere reserve.
