Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / Midwives called for behavior change

The national president of the Order of Midwives, Oulaï Philomène, called on her sisters for a change of behavior to restore the image of their corporation, Saturday, November 27, 2021 in Dimbokro.

She launched this appeal during the investiture ceremony of the president of their association, on behalf of the N’zi, Moronou and Iffou regions, Coulibaly Affoué, sponsored by the Minister of the Economy and Finance, Adama Coulibaly.

Ms. Oulaï said midwives should no longer just attend births, they should also provide prenatal and postnatal care and a range of sexual and reproductive health services. There are also family planning, detection and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, and adolescent sexual and reproductive health services. They must guarantee respectful care and by upholding the rights of women, she recommended.

By appropriating this vision, it will bring about an end to poor reception of parturients, irregular access to care, delay in decision-making, self-payment, added the national president, placing the mandate of the new regional president of the Order under the sign of gathering and work in order to “organize, control, manage and clean up the profession”.

The representative of the sponsor, Gondo Diomandé, congratulated all the women for their initiative to come together in order to better fit into the dynamics of their profession, providing advice to the godchildren of his principal.

As for the president of the midwives of the N’zi, Moronou and Iffou regions, she is committed to ensuring that the members of the organization can realize their potential and contribute to the advancement of universal health coverage and sustainable development goals.
