Côte d’Ivoire -AIP/ La campagne de vaccination contre la rage lancée à Koun Fao

Koun Fao, The prefect of Koun Fao, Kouamé Ouffoué, launched the rabies vaccination campaign on Friday, May 12, 2023, in the prefecture’s conference room, in the presence of the departmental director of animal and fishery resources, Aké Paul Eric and the first deputy mayor, Bamba Siriki.

For the departmental director of animal and fisheries resources of Koun Fao, this campaign aims to avoid loss of human life by protecting the population against pet rabies, “which is the cause of many deaths each year”.

Mr. Aké recalled that 500 people die each year from rabies, “mostly among children under five”. “However, this disease can be avoided, hence the need to vaccinate the animals,” he advised.

This campaign runs from May 12 to 19 in the department. Two teams, one fixed, the other mobile, are formed to ensure the success of this operation in the neighborhoods and villages. To do this, pet owners will have to pay the lump sum of 2000 francs per animal for this state-sponsored campaign.

After inviting people to stop letting animals roam the streets, the prefect proceeded to vaccinate a control dog under the supervision of vaccinators.
