Côte d’Ivoire-AIP/ Journalists urged to promote vaccination coverage

A health NGO that has been involved for more than 70 years in several African countries, “Doctors with Africa Cuamm”, urged journalists to promote vaccination coverage in the population, by combating misinformation and misleading information regarding Covid-19 vaccination.

The Doctors with Africa Cuamm project manager, Flavia Fiacco, launched this call on Friday, September 16, 2022, during a training workshop. She explained that this meeting aims to engage the media in the fight against fake news and the importance of providing an accurate and correct information service. This training is also part of the communication campaign whose objective is to create greater awareness on the issue to reiterate, once again, that the vaccine is safe.

More than two years after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, vaccine hesitancy, coupled with limited vaccine availability, is likely to leave some people behind in the race for immunization, the chief lamented. project of Doctors with Africa Cuamm, Flavia Fiacco.

” The circulation of fake news, which is not accompanied by advice from governments and organizations such as the WHO or Africa CDC, risks undermining the World Health Organization’s goal of vaccinating at least 70% of the world’s population by the middle of the year,” she added.

This one-day training for the benefit of six professional journalists selected from the main local newspapers and radio stations, was carried out in cooperation with the communication and public relations department of the Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal health coverage.

The communication campaign is carried out by Doctors with Africa CUAMM in collaboration with Global SolidarityFund and MastercardFoundation.

Founded in 1950, Médecins d’Afrique Cuamm is the first recognized health NGO in Italy and the largest Italian organization for the promotion and protection of the health of African populations.
