The Ivorian National Navy, secured a Singaporean tanker that was attacked by pirates in international waters, about 600 km south of Abidjan, says a press release received by AIP .
According to this press release signed on Saturday April 15, 2023, from the Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Doumbia Lassina, announced that on Monday April 10, 2023, a Singaporean oil tanker was the target of an attack by pirates in international waters about 600 km south of Abidjan.
As soon as the event occurred and following the alert given by the Regional Center for Maritime Security in West Africa, the Ivorian Navy deployed the high seas patrol boat Rear-Admiral FADIKA with the mission of locating the ship and rescue the crew.
After five days of searching at sea and in coordination with a French Navy aircraft stationed in Dakar, the tanker was found and secured.
He was escorted on April 15, 2023 to the Autonomous Port of Abidjan by Ivorian sailors for investigation formalities. As for the crew, they are safe and sound and are receiving psychological care.
The Armed Forces Chief of Staff expresses his satisfaction to all the units involved in this operation and welcomes the good collaboration with the French Navy and the actors of maritime security in the management of the incident.
