Côte d’Ivoire-AIP/ Inter/ Moussa Faki in Bamako to get information and see how to find a solution to the crisis between Mali and ECOWAS

Abidjan, The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, carried out a mission to Bamako, from Monday January 24 to Tuesday January 25, 2022, in order to meet the authorities of the Malian transition, get informed and see how to find a solution to the crisis between Mali and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), report international media.

During his stay, after having met the diplomats accredited in Mali, the head of the government of the Malian transition, Choguel Maïga Kokalla, he spoke with the president of the Malian transition, Assimi Goita.

At the end of the audience that the latter granted him, Moussa Faki Mahamat let it be known that he is on a mission to Mali to listen, get information and discuss with the authorities on the ongoing transition process.

Returning to the ECOWAS sanctions, endorsed by the African Union, against Mali, he considered that “the most important thing is to see how we must support the Transition in Mali, discuss a consensual approach that can preserve the fundamental interests of this great African country and in accordance with the texts which govern the sub-regional and continental organization.

According to the presidency of Mali, the chairman of the AU Commission urged to take into account the particular situation that Mali is going through, a country facing a security crisis for ten years.

“We are mobilizing the continent and its partners to support Mali and overcome this economic crisis and establish a strong state in the interest of the Malian people, the region and the entire continent,” he concluded.
