Abidjan: The National Human Rights Council of Côte d’Ivoire (CNDH) organized, on Saturday December 10, 2022 at Ficgayo Square in Yopougon, a ceremony marking the launch of the festivities for the Day international human rights law.
The Day was placed under the theme “Dignity, freedom and justice for all”. It recorded the participation of many NGOs and human rights defenders.
“The objective of this meeting is to contribute to the strengthening of the rule of law so that each of us becomes a defender of human rights. We must be respectful of the rights of others and that, in addition to the State, citizens must be mobilized to defend their rights and those of others”, explained the president of the CNDH, Namizata Sangaré.
She underlined that this institution adheres to the theme of the United Nations, which is an invitation for the next twelve months to honor the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), to reflect above all on the heritage and force of militancy of this declaration.
Adopted in 1948 by the United Nations, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), written by René Cassin of France, Eleanor Roosevelt of the United States, Charles Malik of Lebanon, among others, is translated into more than 500 different languages including Malinké and Baoulé. It continues to be the benchmark for promoting the universal exercise of Human Rights.
