Côte d’Ivoire-AIP/ A Koulango women’s association invites young girls to wear their traditional outfits
The ”Réseau, les Biyougou women of Bounkani”, an association of Koulango women, invites the young girls of this community to return to traditional outfits for the perpetuation of their heritage.
The coordinator of the Network, Ouattara Abi Dagbolo, indicated this on Saturday July 08, 2023 at Bouna Peace Square, during her socio-cultural day organized to promote the Koulango cultural heritage.
Ouattara Abi wants to see responsible youth who measure the importance and meaning of traditional outfits so as not to break with origins. ”We want to sensitize our young ladies to return to the fundamentals of our culture, to dress in the colors of our local loincloths, in all decency, as our mothers did,” underlined the coordinator.
On this socio-cultural day, a Miss contest was instituted in order to arouse this interest within the female Koulango. This competition was won by Miss Ouattara Hadja whose traditional outfit and charm won over the public.
The ”Réseau, les femmes Biyougou du Bounkani” was created in 2021 and registers more than 300 women living in Côte d’Ivoire and abroad. This network of women from the Koulango ethnic group intends to take an active part in the ongoing development process in the region.
