Côte d’Ivoire-AIP/A hike for people living with disabilities in San Pedro

San Pedro, May 14, 2023 (AIP)-People living with disabilities took part, on Saturday May 13, 2023, in San Pedro, in the second edition of the sports day dedicated to their person (RHANDIT’FIT), organized by the Federation Ivorian hiking and well-being for all (FIRAPE) and the regional sports directorate in partnership with the social protection directorate.

A total of 12 athletes, including those with motor disabilities without crutches, with crutches and with tricycles, the blind and the mentally handicapped, completed a 400-metre hike in their different categories, on a closed circuit, on the grounds of the KFW college.

They received, depending on their rank, medals in gold, silver and bronze. Some of them are qualified to participate in the national competition which will take place on July 1 in Abidjan.

The president of the league of the Ivorian Federation of pedestrian excursions (FIRAPE), Gueu Privat, indicated that the African Confederation of pedestrian excursions (CARP) and its national representation, the FIRAPE, decided to perpetuate this activity, because, from now on, they want to deal with these people. They appear on their files and will be asked to take part in the various national and international sports competitions.

The sports day dedicated to people living with disabilities, known as RHANDIT’FIT, has been organized for two years, with a view to promoting the practice of sport among this segment of the population and encouraging its development and socialization in general.

The initiators, namely FIRAPE, the Special Olympics Côte d’Ivoire (SOCI), the Paralympic Sports Federation (FISP), NGOs and associations of people living with disabilities, have set themselves the objectives of publicizing this day , and therefore promote a better perception of people living with disabilities in society, increase the capital of sympathy for them, position RHANDIT’FIT as a major activity and advocate for the institution of a national day dedicated to their sports activities.

Reward for the blind at the second edition of RHANDIT’FIT in San Pedro

The representative of the prefect of the San Pedro region, prefect of the department, Mrs. Kamenan Née Siriki Sally, welcomed the initiative and congratulated the organizers. She urged the president of the disabled association to mobilize its members so that they are interested in gender activities and no longer feel marginalized.

This second edition of RHANDIT’FIT is organized in a city in the Ivory Coast. It was planned to take place simultaneously in the targeted cities.
