Côte d’Ivoire-AIP/A headteacher calls for the promotion of the best sports talents in OISSU competitions
Tabou, April 04, 2022 (AIP) – The headmaster of the Barou Adjéhi Valentin modern high school in Tabou, Laciné Fofana, called, on Saturday April 02, 2022, in Tabou, the organizers of the annual competitions of the Ivorian School and University Sports Office ( OISSU) to focus on the detection and monitoring of the best sports talents to restore this activity to its former prestige.
Mr. Fofana launched this appeal during the departmental finals of OISSU competitions, pleading for the integration of the best players from this tournament into national clubs of the various sports disciplines, to strengthen their workforce and contribute to the development of sports in Ivory Coast.
“We must draw inspiration from the past to relaunch OISSU, which can still do a lot of good for our national teams and thus participate in the influence of our country”, he said, citing examples of players from years 1980 who animated the championship and hoisted the Ivorian flag high, in particular, the international footballer Youssouf Falikou Fofana and the handball player Namama Fadiga, who were among the best in school sports competitions.
The departmental director for the promotion of sports and the development of the sports economy, Assamela Marie Josée Koffi, explained the policy put in place to detect the best talents in OISSU competitions after the regional and national finals.
In football, for example, she said, the detection committee selects and places the best players in first division clubs or in training centers to deepen their knowledge and performance. For other disciplines such as handball, athletics and basketball, the talents detected are currently integrated into regional clubs.
“The ministry is in the process of organizing itself so that all the talents detected during our competitions, whatever the discipline, are directly integrated into major clubs in Abidjan or in training centers where we do sports and studies,” she concluded.
The final competitions of OISSU took place with ten teams concerning men’s and women’s football, handball and volleyball. They were chaired by the prefect of the department of Tabou, Ms. Kalidja Kouamé.
