Plans to put up the Sh. 1.5 billion ultra-modern market in Eldoret Town is on course, according to Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii.

The project, jointly funded by the National Government and the County Government of Uasin Gishu is aimed at addressing the challenge of the lack of spaces for traders to operate from.

The state-of-the-art market will be equipped with two basements, 210 parking slots, three cold rooms, 16 showers, 97 lavatories, lactation and daycare facilities, a food court, offices, as well as meeting rooms.

‘We are dedicated to ensuring that this project, which will accommodate over 4,000 traders is carried out as intended in the construction plan,’ said the Governor during a meeting he hosted for the State Department of Housing and Urban Development, which are in the County for a technical handing over of the construction of the 64 ultra-modern market to the constructor.

During the meeting, Dr. Bii stressed the importance of the project being undertaken efficiently and with the highe
st quality standards and within the stated contract period.

With the modern design and State-of-the-Art facilities, the market will also be expected to attract local and international businesses, boosting trade, creating employment opportunities, and nurturing businesses for economic growth.

The Market is also perceived to project the County as a hub of economic activity, fostering growth and prosperity, especially now that Eldoret town is envisioned to become the fifth City in Kenya.

President William Ruto launched the construction of the market on January 9th, 2024 where he announced that plans to provide a conducive business environment for small-scale traders across the Country were on course.
