Butula MP Launches Online Application To Boost Bursary Access For Students

Butula MP Joseph Mayero Oyula launched an online application platform for bursaries to improve access to education funding for students in secondary schools and colleges.

In his statement through the constituency CDF chair Heziron Namwaya Odongo, the MP said that under his leadership, he wanted to ensure 100% transition becomes a reality.

This is in line with the government agenda of making education affordable and accessible from preprimary to tertiary so as to increase the level of technical expertise for both local and international consumption on the labour market.

‘The primary mandate of every government is to ensure illiteracy among its citizens is fought at all cost. That is why we are giving each student who will apply Sh5000 to keep them in school,’ noted Oyula.

To ensure all residents get the fair chance to apply, the legislator has directed his office to do mobile application from one sub-location to another to save parents the cost of moving to Butula market to make applications.

‘We want to
reach out to all parents and ensure no student is locked out. For day schools within the constituency, we will visit the schools and give a chance for all students to apply as long as they possess the right documents,’ noted Odongo, the CDF chairperson.

In order to accommodate those in boarding schools, the office has plans to extend the application exercises until March 15 when students will have been on a half-term break.

‘I’m focusing on every student in this constituency, more so those from humble backgrounds to ensure nothing hinders them from accessing education,’ he added.

Butula residents led by David Otieno from Bumala B area applauded the MP for prioritizing education and urged parents to take advantage of the several bursary schemes to ensure all students are in class,

‘This timely intervention will help cushion parents from the hard economic times as most were unable to pay school fees. My appeal to parents is to ensure no child in Butula is left behind to idle on the streets and indulge in dr
ug abuse,’ said Otieno.

Oyula also urged school principals to ensure they give chances to parents to look for fee arrears which has been a big headache to many school managers.

Meanwhile, school principals challenged the MP to ensure school infrastructure is also upgraded to ensure they match the number of students in school.
