The Nation-wide Epilepsy awareness campaign Angaza Kifafa awareness campaign will be flagged off Thursday at Makueni County Referral Hospital in Wote, Makueni County.
The Angaza Kifafa campaign is aimed at encouraging persons with epilepsy to get treatment, raising awareness and to reduce the stigma associated with epilepsy.
‘As part of the November Epilepsy awareness month, National Epilepsy Coordination Committee (NECC) is set to conduct a Community Health Promoters (CHP) training today and a road show on November 30, 2023, in Makueni County,’ reads part of NECC recent press release.
The awareness campaign is expected to be flagged off by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior.
The CHP training seeks to equip the promoters with skills that will ensure they can assist their communities spread awareness on epilepsy.
The committee said the ultimate goal of these activities is to equip healthcare providers with the latest care practices and knowledge in epilepsy care and those indirectly affected by the condition
.
Epilepsy is a neurological condition, which is characterized by acute seizures, including adverse seizures that cause involuntary movements, shaking, confusion, and anxiety.
The stigma and discrimination associated with epilepsy might prevent people with the condition from seeking treatment and also a decent living.
