Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / UNFPA trains 25 Gôh executives on development and the demographic dividend

A total of 25 executives from deconcentrated and decentralized state structures and NGOs in the Gôh region benefited, from Monday 14 to Wednesday 16 June, in Gagnoa, from a strengthening session capacity building on population, development and demographic dividend issues, at the initiative of the Haut-Sassandra Regional Planning and Development Department with the technical and financial support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

During these three days of training, it was a question of improving the knowledge of these executives of deconcentrated and decentralized structures of the State and NGOs, in terms of understanding the demographic dividend and basic concepts in population and development. , mastery of concepts and tools for taking into account population issues in the various local development plans as well as the human rights-based approach.

The demographic dividend is the window of opportunity offered to all countries to accelerate their economic growth, on the basis of increasing the fringe of the working population to the detriment of the inactive population, according to trainers, Dr Liagui Ouattara and N’Dia Youssouf.

This requires a continuous decline in fertility and mortality rates with reduced spending on children and increased savings and productive investments.

The general population and housing census (RGPH) 2014 reveals that 41.5% of the population is under 15 years old, and that 77.5% is under 35 years old. The youth of this population, if it can constitute a bonus in terms of development, can also prove to be a threat, if no means are found for the socio-professional integration of these young people.

The workshop will be followed by meetings in several other regions of Côte d’Ivoire.
