Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / The 2nd edition of the Abidjan Recycling Fair embodies the model of the sustainable city for Africa

The 2 nd edition of Abidjan recycling Fair leads the reflection on sustainable city model to be adopted by African countries according to their socio-cultural realities, said the Commissioner General, Massal Toure at the opening event on Tuesday 1 st June 2021, the Chamber of commerce and industry of Côte d’Ivoire, Plateau.

For Ms. Touré, African cities, which are experiencing urban growth twice as high as Europe has experienced in history, should not copy textually the backbone of European cities, but should adapt their cultural realities to the concept of sustainable city.

Thus, she added, this edition of the Abidjan Recycling Fair is intended to be a framework for bringing together in the same environment, experts in issues related to sustainable development, the sustainable city, future innovations, technological trends in recycling, the issue of optimal waste management and advances in renewable energy.

The recommendations and conclusions that will emerge from the various panels aim to improve environmental quality, promote biodiversity, promote citizen participation, strengthen social cohesion, and encourage a circular economy and responsible consumption, Massal Touré said.

This edition is marked by innovations. This is the distinction of personalities who, through their actions, contributed to sustainable development in the preservation of the environment through the “Sustainable City Awards” and the competition for the best sustainable city project. These distinctions will be presented on Friday, June 4, at the end of the show.
