Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / SIIDE-CI wants the creation of an order of nurses

The secretary general of the Union of Graduate Nurses of Côte d’Ivoire (SIIDE-CI), Jean Marie Kongoué, wants the creation of an order of nurses for better regulation of this profession in Ivory Coast.

With the establishment of an Order of Nurses, we will be able to ensure the competence of nurses, ensure compliance with ethical principles, support and provide nurses with services to facilitate their activity, explained Mr. Kongoué. .

For him, his profession faces a real problem of autonomy and recognition. “Because the official texts of the regulatory acts for the exercise of the nursing profession in Côte d’Ivoire date from 1972 and give the nurse the role of delegate”, he lamented.

This position is at odds with nursing education today with a role specific to the nurse beyond the role of delegate. “The texts must, in this regard, be updated for a recognition of nursing acts as a whole”, he said.

Mr. Kongoué made this proposal for a contribution of nurses to guarantee a quality care system for patients, during an interview on Sunday May 30, 2021 with the AIP.

“The Order of Nurses will also help guarantee a quality patient care system. It is the duty of the professional to honor the confidence of the patients and it is up to the ordinal institution to guarantee the community the means to safeguard this confidence. », Added the secretary general of SIIDE-CI.
