Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / President Ouattara encourages the SDF to redouble its vigilance in the fight against terrorism
The President of the Republic, Alassane Ouattara encouraged the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) to redouble their vigilance in the fight against terrorism and to continue their efforts against this scourge, during a meeting of the National security Council (NSC) held Thursday 01 st July 2021 at the palace of the Presidency.
In a statement read by Minister Fidèle Sarassoro, secretary of the CNS, Mr. Ouattara strongly condemned the various attacks suffered by the country, at the same time offering his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to all the injured . The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lassina Doumbia also informed the CNS of the actions underway aimed at strengthening the capacities and efficiency of the North Operational Zone, created to fight terrorism along the border with the Burkina Faso and Mali.
According to him, these actions relate, in particular, to the increase in staff, the provision of equipment and materials adapted to the fight against terrorism and the establishment of a strengthened intelligence system.
The CNS nevertheless noted, with satisfaction, that since its last meeting of May 27, 2021, the security situation is generally calm throughout the territory, however, it notes that this situation has been marked by two major events.
These include the attack on the locality of Tougbo, located in the department of Bouna and bordering Burkina Faso, by unidentified armed individuals, on June 07, 2021, which caused the death of an Ivorian soldier, and The explosion of an Improvised Explosive Device ( IED) on the Tehini – Togolokaye axis, as a reconnaissance patrol of the Armed Forces of Côte d’Ivoire (FACI) passed, on June 12, 2021,
which made 03 dead including 01 gendarme and 02 soldiers as well as 06 wounded.
