Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / Police officers in the North zone strengthen their security monitoring capacities at the borders

Thirty-four national police officers, responsible for border surveillance in the northern part of the country, are strengthening their reaction and action capacities, as part of a workshop integrating the government monitoring strategy in the face of security issues, marked in particular by the fight against trafficking in human beings, the smuggling of migrants and the fight against terrorism.

The city of Odienne hosts since Thursday 1 st July 2021, the training session. The participants come in particular from the border posts of Nigouni (Tengrela, border Mali) of Tiéfenzo (Tienko-region of Folon-border Mali) and the police stations of Minignan and Gbéléban (border Guinea).

During three days, these agents will be trained according to a program of 12 modules addressing the themes in particular of the management of migratory flows and the identification of victims of trafficking and trafficking. National international legislation as well as the trends of these two phenomena in the Ivorian context will also be taught to them.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is leading the activity, as part of the implementation of the project “Strengthening the capacities of the authorities of Côte d’Ivoire to provide an integrated response to trafficking in human beings and smuggling of migrants” (COCOTIP ).

A three-year program, funded by the Federal Republic of Germany, consists of the construction and equipping of three border police stations. As well as capacity building for border authorities, especially frontline officers at entry points into the country.
