Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / Patrick Achi protests against the “uncontrolled rise” of products on the markets
The Prime Minister, Patrick Achi rose up on Friday 02 July 2021 against the “uncontrolled rise” in the costs of basic necessities on the Ivorian markets, since the problem of the energy deficit in the country.
During a meeting with industrialists from the private sector, the head of government took stock of this situation, promising strong measures in the days to come.
“In recent weeks, we have been witnessing a surge in the prices of certain foodstuffs on the market, in particular sometimes essential foodstuffs which have made people feel more and more in difficulty,” he noted.
According to him, despite the efforts of the state to lessen the impact of the energy crisis, people are taking advantage to sabotage all this work.
“The populations have the impression that in an environment of semi-impunity and under the guilty and complicit silence of the State, we let it happen and that there are no limits. It has certainly come for me to put a stop to it. We cannot in a way without real foundation start to increase in a reckless way the prices of basic necessities ”, threatened the head of the Ivorian government.
As an urgent solution, Mr. Achi announced the resumption of the activities of the National Council against the high cost of living.
He specified that meetings will take place in the coming days with the various economic actors sector by sector to discuss all the basic subjects with a view to achieving a reduction in the cost of living in households.
“We give a signal and reassure the populations (…), the State is doing everything possible (…), we are not far from them, we are not ignorant on these subjects (high cost of living), and we let’s work, ”he promised.
Created by decree No. 2017-410 of June 21, 2017, the national council for the fight against high cost of living is responsible for ensuring permanent monitoring of the prices of consumer products. Chaired by the Prime Minister, the Council is presented as a permanent framework for exchanges between the public sector and the private sector, between economic operators and the government, between unions, consumer associations and the government.
